The Gundam Exia is a third-generation Close Combat Mobile Suit constructed by Celestial Being, a paramilitary organization dedicated to remedying global conflicts with their highly advanced Mobile Suit forces. Through years of research, Celestial Being was able to create the revolutionary GN Drives, providing their Mobile Suits with an almost limitless power supply. The GN Drives also exude powerful GN Particles, which grant the Gundam Exia fantastic maneuverability, amongst other benefits. The Gundam Exia’s sparse armor placement furthers the mobility and range of motion by a great deal, perfect for getting in close to targets. The Gundam Exia’s armor placement ensured full mobility but exposed vitals during movement, reducing the Mobile Suit’s defensive capabilities. The main protagonist of Mobile Suit Gundam 00, Setsuna F. Seiei, piloted the Gundam Exia during the series’ first season.

Included alongside the Gundam Exia for accessories:

  • GN Sword
  • GN Long Blade
  • GN Short Blade
  • GN Shield
  • Beam Saber (Long) x2
  • Beam Saber (Short) x2
  • 1/100 Setsuna F. Seiei Figure
  • 1/100 Karel Figure
  • Display Stand for GN Drive
  • Action Base Adapter

The MG Gundam Exia features all-new construction with a full inner frame and a functioning cockpit, two essential features that characterize the modern Master Grade Line. The MG Gundam Exia features double-jointed knees and elbows, providing the model with a wide range of motion. This model does use polycaps within its inner frame to help create a highly posable final product. The MG Gundam Exia’s limited armoring lends itself to dynamic posing, especially in the air!

Weapons and Other Notable Attributes

The GN Sword is Gundam Exia’s primary weapon, functioning as a high-powered melee weapon or Beam Rifle, depending on the blade’s orientation. The Gundam Exia includes two more physical bladed weapons attached to its side skirt armor. This pair of blades carry the unique ability to disable GN Shields to counter any potential betrayers from using their Mobile Suit against Celestial Being. The Gundam Exia also sorties with four traditional Beam Sabers attached to its back, two of which utilize smaller beams.

By implementing the technique of Top Coating, you can do a great deal to help preserve the longevity of your models. This process will protect the original plastic of your model kit and prepare it for any additional modeling techniques to follow.

You can drastically improve your results by making the details pop on the Gundam Exia with Panel Lining. The simplest solution for this is Gundam Markers or Tamiya Panel Line Fluid. Making your own panel wash is always a great option too! It is always recommended to Topcoat with clear gloss beforehand, as some of the products commonly used for Panel Lining will degrade the untreated plastics over time.

Another way to keep adding detail is by applying Stickers/Marking DecalsTop Coating before application will help decals stick to the surface much better. Using Top Coat after application will help hide the seams on traditional sticker decals as well as waterslides. This additional step will also keep them from peeling over time. Using Decals is a great way to add an even greater level of detail to your scale models.

The first run of the Exia had issues with joints not being as tight as they could be. It seems that the latest runs (identifiable from the blue Bandai logo on the box cover) have been a sort of soft retooling, where it has been fixed. Not a true 1.5 like the treatment that the Dom got, but definitely some minor tweaks somewhere in production. I avoided the kit for that initial run, but recently made the purchase on the “fixed” version. VERY glad I did. Aesthetically, it was already a high recommendation because the design is just so incredibly on point and you feel as though you’re getting quite a bit for a mid-priced kit. With the joint issue remedied, it was a pleasure to build this kit. The core MG 00 line has really earned itself an amazing stand out quality among all the Gundam franchises, and the Exia doesn’t hinder the absolutely unparalleled achievements of the Dynames or Kyrios or Virtue when displayed together.
