HGUC #221 FD-03 Gustav Karl Unicorn Version

$29.99

The FD-03 Gustav Karl is the Federations replacement for their famous RGM series of Mobile Suits used since the One Year Wars inception. The Federation sought to increase the armor’s strength and overall size of their Mass Production units. To negate the additional weight, the FD-03 Gustav Karl uses various verniers and thrusters to maintain its agility while operating in-atmosphere. This HGUC rendition of the FD-03 Gustav Karl borrows its likeness from the Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn animated series, giving it a sweet warlike gray color scheme. The FD-03 Gustav Karl Type-00 is used throughout the Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway animated movie and sports a few internal enhancements and a much more aggressive blue color scheme.

Included alongside the FD-03 Gustav Karl as accessories:

  • Beam Rifle
  • Beam Saber x2

Articulation
 –

This big, burly Mobile Suit uses some unique building techniques to cope with the size of some of the armor panels. The rear calf-thrusters slide out of the way to provide a better range of motion in the knees. The knees are double-jointed, which, combined with the thigh swivel gimmick, provides the FD-03 Gustav Karl with enough posability to make the most of its gigantic armor-plated legs. The arms are also double-jointed, giving the FD-03 Gustav Karl a more dynamic look, especially when firing its Beam Rifle or swinging a Beam Saber.

Weapons and Other Notable Attributes

Like the RGM-96X Jesta, the FD-03 Gustav Karl features a shoulder-mounted Flexible Shield. To swing the shield around the front of the Mobile Suit, builders will need to swap in an optional sub-arm that reaches over the FD-03 Gustav Karl’s shoulder. The FD-03 Gustav Karl uses the same Beam Rifle as the RGM-89 Jegan because of its reliable handling and high rate of fire. Both pieces of side skirting contain a Beam Saber for close-combat use. Inside the left forearm, you’ll find a grenade launcher that fires two self-propelled grenades capable of disabling an enemy Mobile Suit with a well-placed shot.

HGUC #221 FD-03 Gustav Karl Unicorn Version

Tips and Tricks –

By implementing the technique of Top Coating, you can do a great deal to help preserve the longevity of your models. This process will protect the original plastic of your model kit and prepare it for any additional modeling techniques to follow.

You can drastically improve your results by making the details pop on the HGUC #221 FD-03 Gustav Karl Unicorn Version with Panel Lining. The simplest solution for this is Gundam Markers or Tamiya Panel Line Fluid. If you’re up to a challenge making panel wash is always a great option too! It is always recommended to Topcoat with clear gloss beforehand, as some of the products commonly used for Panel Lining will degrade the untreated plastics over time.

Another way to keep adding detail is by applying Stickers/Marking DecalsTop Coating before the application will help decals stick to the surface much better. Using Top Coat after application will help hide the seams on traditional sticker decals as well as waterslides. This additional step will also keep them from peeling over time. Using Decals is a great way to add an even greater level of detail to your scale models.
